The way I have just written down my future
Actually, I was going to write this post a year ago and then my former future and current present came faster than I could write it down.
In the past year, I have realised that you don’t necessarily need to write down the future. It is even sufficient to say it out loud or imagine it mentally and as concretely as possible. More surprising for me was that I also manage to do this for other people around me. About a year ago, I wished for a group of colleagues at work to become a real team. I also strongly believed that a certain coach who works for our company could help them achieve this. Several times I also expressed this and kept picturing how this future team would work together and how beautiful it could be. A month ago, I experienced the moment when my wish came true. It turned out exactly as I had dreamed it would.
Wishes do come true
And my own wishes for the future have also come true in the past year. I had always wished to be able to spend more time at home. And by that I didn’t necessarily mean more time for hobbies and household duties. I just wanted to maximise the time I physically spend in my home. And then the pandemic came. Since then, I spend almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at home. I wouldn’t have necessarily wanted it to be that extreme, but this original desire makes it easy for me to live through this difficult time. One of my Big Five For Life is: “My home is a safe and joyful haven for me, my family and my friends.“. Ever since then I have been able to fully implement this at least for myself and at the same time create an even more beautiful haven for my family and friends as soon as this is possible again.
A year ago, I had the strong wish to finally know in which direction I should go as an agile coach. The training as a value-creating Agile Coach was supposed to bring me greater certainty in this process. That certainty I did get as well as some initial direction along the way. And eventually, that wish came true in the very last week of 2020. Suddenly I had clarity and knew exactly what I wanted to do all along and what part of the Agile Universe pushes me forward: Values & Goals. I want to achieve my goals while respecting my values. Mindfulness and emotional awareness have therefore become my core principles.
Evidence
And at this point I can now offer proof that I simply wrote down my future. My website Coach Katja is subtitled “Happy & Successful“. Coincidence? When I created this website a few years ago, I chose these words because they appealed to me naturally and because they express what I strongly believe in. If you achieve your goals, you are successful. But only if the journey there and the goal itself have respected your values, you will be truly happy.
Proof number 2: My PFE is “To support people and give them the confidence to put their wishes and ambitions into practice.“. That’s how I phrased it 18 months ago. And that is exactly what I want to do. I want to help people to achieve their goals. But to do that, they first have to know their goals. And to be able to achieve them, they should also know their values.
Quod erat demonstrandum!
Conclusion
For this year, I have been very bold regarding my goals. I haven’t written them down yet, but I have never had such a clear picture in my mind and such a fulfilling feeling along the way! I can only encourage everyone to give it a try. Think of it as a small experiment and then look back at the end of the year to see how successful it went. If you don’t like writing, use the dictation function of your smartphone or draw a picture. The essential part is that you have something to compare it to at the end of the year.
